Joshua Cooley is a husband to an amazing wife and four adorable kids. He is also a children’s minister, author, freelance writer and former fulltime sports writer/editor. In 2016, he had the privilege of working with Outreach Inc. to produce an Easter planning kit for churches called The Hope of Easter, including a resurrection-themed companion gift book. In 2015, Joshua’s book, The One Year Devotions With Jesus, was released through Tyndale House Publishers, while Tyndale published his Heroes of the Bible Devotional a year earlier.
Joshua has co-written three other books: Tackling Truth: Spiritual Insights Drawn from the Great Game of Football (Barbour Publishing, due August 2016), Playing With Purpose: Inside the Lives and Faith of the Major Leagues’ Top Players (Barbour, 2012), and The One Year Sports Devotions For Kids (Tyndale, 2011). He also contributed to Tony Evans’ Raising Kingdom Kids: 90-Day Devotions (Tyndale, 2015) and the International Bible Society’s Path to Victory Sports New Testament (2006).
Joshua’s freelance work has been featured in a variety of publications, including Sports Illustrated, FCA Magazine, Sports Spectrum, Focus on the Family’s Thriving Family Magazine, Bethesda Magazine, Orioles Magazine, Nationals Magazine, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Baltimore Sun and The Orlando Sentinel. He has written for teenagers and children in Highlights, Breakaway, Brio, Clubhouse and Susie magazines.
(In addition, Joshua once wrote a fascinating, fully illustrated story called The Flying Turtle in sixth grade. Lamentably, like the works of Dickinson, Poe and Thoreau, this masterpiece has received virtually no critical acclaim during the author’s lifetime.)
In 2015, Joshua and his wife, lifelong Maryland residents, packed up the kids and moved to North Carolina. So far, he hasn’t sipped sweet tea on the front porch or said y’all. But he could eat a good southern BBQ sandwich and hush puppies all day long.
